Lynn Helms Prosser, Auxiliary National Commander

Lynn Helms Prosser was elected as national commander of the DAV Auxiliary at the 2021 DAV & Auxiliary National Convention in Tampa, Florida. She is eligible for Auxiliary membership through her deceased husbands, James E. Helms, Sr. and Carroll E. Prosser, both Vietnam veterans, and her deceased father, John B. Clark, Sr. Prosser also serves on the organization’s Education Program and National Finance Committees. She has been a dedicated and active Auxiliary life member since 1997.

At her local unit, Prosser has served in all positions including commander and adjutant.

Prosser has held all elected positions at the South Carolina state level including commander. She presently serves as South Carolina Seventh District aide to the commander and advisor to the nominating committee.

At the national level, Prosser served as national 4th through senior vice commander from 2016 until her current election; as national 9th District representative for the National Executive Committee from 2013-2015; and served as national chairman of the Auxiliary’s legislative, Americanism, community service, membership and hospital committees. She has also served on the Constitution and Bylaws, Junior Activities and Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service committees.

Having been a caregiver for her late husbands, Prosser is a staunch advocate for caregivers. She has repeatedly traveled to DAV Mid-Winter Conference in Washington, D.C. to meet with legislators about veterans’ issues and benefits, especially VA funding for medical care and issues concerning caregivers, survivors and improvements for women veterans’ medical care.

Prosser resides in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She retired after 46 years as a cosmetologist and now dedicates herself full-time to assisting veterans and their families.
